Strava's new integration with the Fi Smart Dog Collar

We're happy to announce Strava's integration with the Fi Smart Collar for dogs. The Fi collar uses GPS and the LTE-M network to remotely track your dog, and also tracks their sleep, activity and steps.

Fi automatically records your walks with your dog, and with our new integration these walks will be uploaded to Strava to share with your entire community. When your Fi walks are uploaded to Strava they will include a graphic featuring stats on steps taken, and how your dog ranks among other dogs on Fi.

To celebrate, we've polled Strava and Fi employees about the dogs in their lives.  If you like looking at pictures of dogs, sit back and enjoy.

Meet the Dogs:

This is Plusha.  She lives in Boston, Massachusetts  Plusha loves to explore new hiking trails with her Human, and her favorite Strava feature is trail sports.

This is Bailey.  Bailey is a terrier mix living in Mill Valley, California.  Her favorite Strava feature is videos/media so she can show off her very cute self.Next up is Luna.  This Shiba Inu / German Shepherd mix lives in Denver Colorado.  Luna loves seeing other dogs out and about and her fave Strava feature is Clubs.

Let me present Henry.  He's a German Shepherd / English Bulldog mix living in San Francisco.  His favorite Strava feature is photos on routes, so he always knows what gear to bring on our runs/hikes! His other favorite feature is the Fi and Strava integration, so that all his friends can see his stats.

Mog is an Australian Labradoodle living in Marin County, California. Her favorite feature is drawing routes. Mog loves to explore new routes by turning on our personal heatmap and finding routes we haven't explored before

 

Loving life in Denver, Colorado, this is Patrick, a poodle. Patrick is a creature of habit so his favorite Strava feature is Local Legends.

 

This is Poppy. She's a Cattle Dog mix also living in California. Poppy knows how photogenic she is, and her favorite Strava feature is adding photos and videos to Strava activities.

 

Here we have Milo supervising his human's workout. He is a Puggle living in Charlotte, North Carolina. Like some other pups, his favorite Strava feature is adding photos and videos to Strava activities, because he loves to be featured!

 

This is Roman, an American Pitbull terrier living in Brooklyn, New York. His favorite feature is the Strava/Fi integration

 

Say Hi to Chloe. She's a dachshund mix living in Incline Village, Nevada. Her favorite feature is Strava Chlallenges.

 

Scout Judith is a French Bulldog mix living in Portland, Oregan. She uses Strava's Goals feature to motivate her to get moving

 

Here's Georgia, an Aussie from Reno Nevada. Favorite Strava feature is kudos

 

 

Dallas is Husky Golden Retriever mix living in Somerville, Massachusetts. He loves the outdoors and his fave feature is the Global Heatmap

 

Kodi is an Entlebucher Mountain Dog living in Charlestown, Massachusetts. Favorite feature is chasing KOMsLast up we have Buddy. He's a Golden Retriever living in New York City, and he and his human enjoy tracking their steps

He's a little podenco x Brittany, he was found on the streets in Spain with his mum and litter mates at 10 days old. I've had him since he was six months and he has been the most amazing trail buddy. He recently moved to Australia with me so he is a very well traveled boy. We have had some amazing adventures together all over the UK and now in Australia. He's one in a million, my Doug!

I connected the Fi app from my dogs collar to Strava, took the dog on a walk, and nothing.   Does a separate dog account need to be created before connecting the app?  If I am already logged in on the app for myself, how does it post for the dog?   I watched the 30 second video on the fi collar website, but details are lacking from both sites as far as I can find.

For recording, please ensure that the Fi app is open and running in the background. Then once you leave your home base it detects that you are now on a walk and will record until you return home. Then it will automatically end the walk and sync to Strava. If you continue to have issues please feel free to write in to our customer support team and they can troubleshoot what might be going on,

You are killing Strava with this tosh.  Athletes don't want to see MORE dog walks.  Either change your name to Facebook or give the athletes the old Strava back.  I remember a time when people on Strava only posted interesting bike rides and runs.  Now my feed is full of yoga, walks to the shops, stretching, etc...   You are in danger of losing all the people for whom you invented Strava for!

Sad to say .. I kind of agree with @Aerialdan with respect to the dog-walks on Strava.  I don't hink my cycling buddies want to see it in the feed any more than I do.  My daughters however do want to see my dog's feed (and not mine). Perhaps post to my dog's own account? But ... and clearly I'm doing something wrong ... ran both Strava and Fi and here is the comparison.  Is this the best Fi (on the right) can do with the same tracking? Pretty lame.
