Happy Tuesday and welcome back to Tuesday Chat with Team Strava! Our aim with this series is to give you an exclusive glimpse into all things Strava that you normally wouldn’t find elsewhere and to open up discussions with all of you strivers! Although not as old or iconic as the Boston Marathon, the New York City Marathon has grown to be the biggest marathon in the world with more than 53,000 Finishers in 2019.  The inaugural race, held in 1970, consisted of multiple laps around Manhattan’s Central Park. In 1976, the race course changed to the current iconic route, beginning on Staten Island and passing through Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and The Bronx, then returning to Manhattan to finish at the southwest corner of Central Park. In addition to the tens of thousands of participants, nearly 2 million spectators line the race course to cheer on the runners. We recently caught up with Mateo A. You tap to stop recording and anxiously wait for your activity to upload to Strava. All of a sudden, you're stumped. "What on earth do I title my run?", you wonder... 🤔 🤔A quick glance through your home feed displays your friends' activities, all sorts of activity titles pop up: from the generic "Afternoon Ride" to the auto-generated activity titles that reference obscure pop culture quotes, and everything in between.Some people spend their entire workout mulling over the most suitable title to distinguish their effort. But if you're anything like me, you either leave it to the default, write something silly and edit it moments later, or spend unjustifiable amounts of energy pondering what you could have, should have and would have titled it. 💭 For

Hello Strava Administrator, and Strava Athletes Alike,Am I missing the obvious, or has the following topic been overlooked?  Strava awards accomplishments like KOM/QOM, and cups for Top 10 over segments.  Kudos!  But what about some new type of recognition for age-group leaders?  In virtually any real-life race or competition, age-group winners are also recognized in addition to the overall winners.  It seems like a no-brainer that Strava should do the same.  I know that subscribers get the age-group listing also, but a person has to look that up.  Why not award a virtual trophy of some kind as soon as the ride is uploaded to Strava so followers can see and acknowledge that accomplishment the same way it's done for KOM/QOM and Top 10?  People who get out there, and get out there and challenge themselves as they enter the upper age-groups should be recognized for that.  This seems too obvious to be overlooked by Strava.  Am I missing som

Normally when you think about a task or goal while you're performing it, time feels like you are moving in slow motion. I can't speak for everyone, but when I think about the daunting hill I have to run up just to get back home, it feels like my legs have weights attached to them. To conquer that mindset I know I have to get into a zone. You know the zone right? That feeling you get when you are pretty much on autopilot. Your body and mind are in sync and the thought of stopping doesn't exist. Some people need complete silence while others need their favorite song on their playlist to come on in order to get into a zone. I personally listen to audiobooks to occupy my mind while my body moves on its own. What about you? What method do you use to get into the zone while you're active?

Just joined the Strava campfire chat community, have been using Strava since 2019. I am a road cyclist from the US that lives in Nepal where the mountain bike is king haha.Since cycling is a developing sport here, Strava gives a great opportunity to compare times and help get the word out about cycling and all its benefits here. Thanks!Caleb Hubbard

Let’s admit it, we don’t always feel like getting up to exercise. Whether it’s cold outside or we’re tired from the previous day, it’s challenging to get moving when we don’t really want to. Yet we dig deep and find ourselves outside (or in the gym) sweating. For me personally, whenever I don’t feel like exercising I think about how there’s someone out there getting better while I’m not. That’s enough for me to get up and get moving!💪 What about you? What keeps you motivated to be active and exercise even on the days you don’t want to?

Hello and welcome to this week’s edition of Tuesday Chat with Team Strava!   Let’s start by harkening back to 2009, the year Strava was founded.  At the very beginning, we supported one activity type, (cycling), and one device type (Garmin).  If you were a cyclist with a Garmin cycling computer, you could use Strava. Oh how things have changed!  Over the intervening years we’ve expanded to include a wide variety of activity types, including water sports, winter sports, indoor workouts, and many others.  Some of our most recent activity type additions include Football (soccer), golf, sailing and skateboarding.  In addition we’ve worked hard to integrate with a large number of devices, Apps, and platforms, so our Athletes have a wide variety of choices when it comes to recording their data and getting it on Strava. With the London marathon just finished at the beginning of October, I came across this article on the Runner’s World website which states that Strava Athletes who run the London Marathon in 2021 were faster on average than the rest of the runners participating in the marathon.   ‘’The average Strava uploader completed the 2021 London Marathon in 4:19:54, just under three minutes quicker than average time for the race as a whole – 4:22:50.’’   Seems like more than half of the total runners (80k) were on Strava, and the article goes into detail on the average time for men and women. I found this information quite interesting and I wonder if a similar logic is applied to other sports types - especially cycling and walking. Do you feel like being a part of the Strava community and using Strava in your exercising helps you gain a competitive advantage, compared to your family, friends, or members of your local club?  If so - what do you think is the key factor to that advanta

Who invented Segments? 🤔 🤔 Long before Strava existed, cyclists were talking about their fastest times up iconic climbs. We all know “if it’s not on Strava, it didn’t happen”, so how did segments originate? They were invented by one of Strava’s co-founders, Davis Kitchel, inspired by a Wednesday night group ride in the late 90s. “There were notable, locally named climbs with well understood start and finish lines during which the ride turned into a race to the top with the prize being stature and bragging rights. Not everybody could make it to each Wednesday ride, which often led to comments with no proof like ‘Oh, I rode that climb last week and was at least 30 seconds faster than we rode today.’” With nothing to back these claims and verify them, Davis, a software engineer, set out to obtain better data and keep track of efforts. The idea of Strava was first conceived of in the mid 1990s, by our co-founders Michael Horvath and Mark Gainey, but it wasn’t until 2009 that they officially founded Strava as a website for cyclists to map their rides. We’ve come a long way since then, and now support many activity types including running, walking, team sports and indoor workouts. It’s always fun to look back on our roots and reminisce about “way back when”. Hey! First, I want to thank you for visiting our Strava Community Hub. This is a space where athletes are able to meet and treat each other like Family. As your Family Member, I would like to say Welcome Home! My name is Bryant and here are a few things about myself. I'm originally from Memphis, Tennessee but coming up on my fourth year living in California. I'm approaching my 2 Year Anniversary working for Strava. My favorite sport is Basketball but I use Running on Strava to track my conditioning and stay in shape. My goal for this month is to run a total of 60 miles. At 2 miles per day, I believe this is very possible and would be a huge accomplishment! It would be great to get to know you! Please introduce yourself to your Strava Family and let us know a bit more about you, your favorite activity, and any goals that you have for October.  Drop your introduction into the thread below and we'll be here to cheer you on! 

Do you prefer exercising in the heat or cold? I'd pick the heat any day. I'm simply not a fan of freezing my fingers, toes, nose and eyeballs off. How about you? Comment below if you prefer being 🌞 = hot or ❄️ = cold.      

So, my wife and I like to get out and run, but with the summer sun and humidity, it can be hard to get outside and not just feel like we are melting.  We try to run first thing in the am (before it gets too hot), but that is when the humidity here is the highest... later in the day, we have lower humidity, but a scorching hot sun.What do you do to 'beat the heat'?  Has anybody tried those "Arctic Cool" shirts?  Run at night?  Run indoors on a treadmill? (I don't like to do this, since we spend so much time indoors in the winter).  Cycling isn't as bad, since you at least generate more wind with the movement - any other activities you migrate to when it is hot outside?Who actually likes running in the heat (and why)?  We see a lot of people out in the peak heat of day - wondering how??

Hello! Thanks for visiting the Strava Community Hub.  I'm Jane and here's a few things about me: I'm originally from Canada (Alberta) but I've been a  U.S. resident for a while and have lived in California, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York. I've worked for Strava for nine years. My favorite activities tend to change throughout the seasons; right now I'm enjoying walking and strength training the most. I'm not currently training for any races or events, but I am looking forward to cheering on the runners in the NYC Marathon in November. A friend of mine received a ticket from the town for riding a small section of trail that is apparently off limits to bikes. He rode very early in the morning and encountered no one. When he called the town to ask why he was ticketed they told him that they found his ride on social media. He does not use any social media and does not post his rides anywhere except Strava.  Has anyone else experienced this?  How does one easily even find segment activity of other riders without actually riding the segment? 

Tried (fill in the blank) sport! What's a sport you've always wanted to try? 🤔 🤔 Risk is my middle name, I'm a big adrenaline junkie and am constantly on the lookout for a greater challenge. Most people don't like trying new things because they hate being bad at something. I find it humbling and motivating when I'm a beginner. When someone tells me "that's crazy, that's not possible" I transmute that into fuel for motivation 💪 I watched a documentary on Netflix called The Alpinist a few months ago and was really intrigued by Marc-André Leclerc, who was a remarkable solo free climber. I've tried climbing previously, and my spaghetti cyclist arms struggle quite a bit with the challenges the sport presents. However, ice climbing ⛏️ seems a lot more appealing to me and I'd love to try that someday, barring I gain enough upper body strength. Something about the danger, mental challenges and the constantly changing variables seems very enticing

Are there boards on Strava to post if anyone is interested in renting out an enduro e-bike? I have 2, (medium frames) YTs available. Perhaps you've wanted to try one out before purchase of are traveling and want to get a ride in. 

That was a nail biter of a game between England and Germany yesterday, so exciting to watch!  Kudos to England for winning it!  I'm sure big parties continue today.   I did feel sorry for the German side - the look of disappointment, but somebody has to win, and England have waited so long.Watching the match got me wondering, how many people track Football (soccer) on Strava?  I know I do... and, I've tried it 2 waysRecord as a run: I do this because I like to know how far I've run at the end, but it creates a 'mess' of a map, and also skews my running totalsRecord as cardio: gives me a better 'relative effort' score, but doesn't track the distance.Anybody else record activities like this?  What methods do you do?  Maybe this is something I should put in as a feature request?

I live in NZ and will be in Brisbane/Gold Coast for a week. Do I have to do anything to my account so that my Fenix6X Pro and Strava will "talk" with each other! Or does it just stay the same?

Hello,updates for local lengend are not made automaticaly. by going to the segment page, the update is made, so it's better than at the start of the problem a few weeks ago.but the update is not made in one case : when nobody is local legend before i do the segment. for example : in this activity https://www.strava.com/activities/7659763885 i do the segment https://www.strava.com/segments/21560708 in the segment page, it's say nothing about local legend. same thing in https://www.strava.com/segments/21560708/local-legendsame probleme in this activity https://www.strava.com/activities/7649876080 for the segment https://www.strava.com/segments/4580916 after the activiity, it's say no local legend. i do again this segment in today activity https://www.strava.com/activities/7682580797 after today activity, the update has been made with the correct number : 2. so the system can say a user is the local legend when nobody was local legend, but that should happen after the first attempt, not t
