Welcome to Strava Community Hub! Use this thread to introduce yourself and meet some new people. We'd love to hear more about who you are, what activities interest you and also importantly what your favorite cheese is 🧀?  Here's mine: Scotland born but now California based (the 😎 shines more here) I love hiking, running (sometimes) and also hoping to establish maze based walking/solving as an up and coming sport type, cause it's a real workout running round those things.  I love cheese. My favorites right now are anything from Wisconsin or California though especially enjoying Gouda recently and trying out some vegan cheeses like Cashew or Smoked Gouda.  Share your story, favorite cheese or favorite cheese based story.

Hello fellow sportsmen and sportswomen

I'd like to say hello - as suggested when I first read about this hub. My name is Dustin, I'm located in western Europe and am sort of addicted to all kind of sporty activities. I mostly cycle, though. Three weeks ago I started running for the first time in my life and sort of like it. So I added swimming to my weekly routine and started to prepare training to compete in a triathlon next year. Gladly looking forward to discussions with you guys and gals.

Hi there!I am excited about this new awesome community feature!I am an avid long distance runner and just completed my latest half marathon race at 1h44. I mainly run in the foothills of The Rocky Mountains in Alberta. I love Strava. It’s amazing. I am a software dev manager and appreciate high quality software and Strava is top of class!🏃‍♂❤️🏃‍♂

Tuesday Chat with Team Strava - chat with Strava's Mateo A. Ortega as he preps for the NYC Marathon

Although not as old or iconic as the Boston Marathon, the New York City Marathon has grown to be the biggest marathon in the world with more than 53,000 Finishers in 2019.  The inaugural race, held in 1970, consisted of multiple laps around Manhattan’s Central Park. In 1976, the race course changed to the current iconic route, beginning on Staten Island and passing through Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and The Bronx, then returning to Manhattan to finish at the southwest corner of Central Park. In addition to the tens of thousands of participants, nearly 2 million spectators line the race course to cheer on the runners. We recently caught up with Mateo A. How do you come up with an activity title?

Sweat dripping down your forehead, your feet dragging on your doorstep as you reach for the knob, a big exhale, ahhh. Endorphins are high and you congratulate yourself on yet another excellent workout. You tap to stop recording and anxiously wait for your activity to upload to Strava. All of a sudden, you're stumped. "What on earth do I title my run?", you wonder... 🤔 🤔A quick glance through your home feed displays your friends' activities, all sorts of activity titles pop up: from the generic "Afternoon Ride" to the auto-generated activity titles that reference obscure pop culture quotes, and everything in between.Some people spend their entire workout mulling over the most suitable title to distinguish their effort. But if you're anything like me, you either leave it to the default, write something silly and edit it moments later, or spend unjustifiable amounts of energy pondering what you could have, should have and would have titled it. 💭 For

Age Group Recognition

Hello Strava Administrator, and Strava Athletes Alike,Am I missing the obvious, or has the following topic been overlooked?  Strava awards accomplishments like KOM/QOM, and cups for Top 10 over segments.  Kudos!  But what about some new type of recognition for age-group leaders?  In virtually any real-life race or competition, age-group winners are also recognized in addition to the overall winners.  It seems like a no-brainer that Strava should do the same.  I know that subscribers get the age-group listing also, but a person has to look that up.  Why not award a virtual trophy of some kind as soon as the ride is uploaded to Strava so followers can see and acknowledge that accomplishment the same way it's done for KOM/QOM and Top 10?  People who get out there, and get out there and challenge themselves as they enter the upper age-groups should be recognized for that.  This seems too obvious to be overlooked by Strava.  Am I missing som

Getting in the Zone

Normally when you think about a task or goal while you're performing it, time feels like you are moving in slow motion. I can't speak for everyone, but when I think about the daunting hill I have to run up just to get back home, it feels like my legs have weights attached to them. To conquer that mindset I know I have to get into a zone. You know the zone right? That feeling you get when you are pretty much on autopilot. Your body and mind are in sync and the thought of stopping doesn't exist. Some people need complete silence while others need their favorite song on their playlist to come on in order to get into a zone. I personally listen to audiobooks to occupy my mind while my body moves on its own. What about you? What method do you use to get into the zone while you're active?

I am a CaniSports Ambassador, I run the largest Facebook group in the World for CaniSports and I'm looking forward to taking part in the International Championships for my sports in Autumn and Winter this year. I will continue to petition Strava to include my sports as separate entities as my sports are dog assisted and we get complaints (Quiet Rightly) from other Strava users that as we are assisted that our results should not be shown in the KOM/QOM tables. We are asking for 3 sports CaniCRoss - Running with your Dog, Canibike - MTB bikes with dogs pulling and CaniScoot - Large Adult scooters with dogs pulling. Please Strava consider the 19000+ members of the community that t

How Do You Push Through?

Let’s admit it, we don’t always feel like getting up to exercise. Whether it’s cold outside or we’re tired from the previous day, it’s challenging to get moving when we don’t really want to. Yet we dig deep and find ourselves outside (or in the gym) sweating. For me personally, whenever I don’t feel like exercising I think about how there’s someone out there getting better while I’m not. That’s enough for me to get up and get moving!💪 What about you? What keeps you motivated to be active and exercise even on the days you don’t want to?

Tuesday Chat with Team Strava: History of Strava Week 3 - Strava by Numbers

Hello and welcome to this week’s edition of Tuesday Chat with Team Strava!   Let’s start by harkening back to 2009, the year Strava was founded.  At the very beginning, we supported one activity type, (cycling), and one device type (Garmin).  If you were a cyclist with a Garmin cycling computer, you could use Strava. Oh how things have changed!  Over the intervening years we’ve expanded to include a wide variety of activity types, including water sports, winter sports, indoor workouts, and many others.  Some of our most recent activity type additions include Football (soccer), golf, sailing and skateboarding.  In addition we’ve worked hard to integrate with a large number of devices, Apps, and platforms, so our Athletes have a wide variety of choices when it comes to recording their data and getting it on Strava. Strava Athletes run faster - believe it or not! 💪

With the London marathon just finished at the beginning of October, I came across this article on the Runner’s World website which states that Strava Athletes who run the London Marathon in 2021 were faster on average than the rest of the runners participating in the marathon.   ‘’The average Strava uploader completed the 2021 London Marathon in 4:19:54, just under three minutes quicker than average time for the race as a whole – 4:22:50.’’   Seems like more than half of the total runners (80k) were on Strava, and the article goes into detail on the average time for men and women. I found this information quite interesting and I wonder if a similar logic is applied to other sports types - especially cycling and walking. Do you feel like being a part of the Strava community and using Strava in your exercising helps you gain a competitive advantage, compared to your family, friends, or members of your local club?  If so - what do you think is the key factor to that advanta

Tuesday Chat with Team Strava: History of Strava - Week 2

Who invented Segments? 🤔 🤔 Long before Strava existed, cyclists were talking about their fastest times up iconic climbs. We all know “if it’s not on Strava, it didn’t happen”, so how did segments originate? They were invented by one of Strava’s co-founders, Davis Kitchel, inspired by a Wednesday night group ride in the late 90s. “There were notable, locally named climbs with well understood start and finish lines during which the ride turned into a race to the top with the prize being stature and bragging rights. Not everybody could make it to each Wednesday ride, which often led to comments with no proof like ‘Oh, I rode that climb last week and was at least 30 seconds faster than we rode today.’” With nothing to back these claims and verify them, Davis, a software engineer, set out to obtain better data and keep track of efforts. The idea of Strava was first conceived of in the mid 1990s, by our co-founders Michael Horvath and Mark Gainey, but it wasn’t until 2009 that they officially founded Strava as a website for cyclists to map their rides. We’ve come a long way since then, and now support many activity types including running, walking, team sports and indoor workouts. It’s always fun to look back on our roots and reminisce about “way back when”. Hey Strava Family, Welcome Home! (October)

Hey! First, I want to thank you for visiting our Strava Community Hub. This is a space where athletes are able to meet and treat each other like Family. As your Family Member, I would like to say Welcome Home! My name is Bryant and here are a few things about myself. I'm originally from Memphis, Tennessee but coming up on my fourth year living in California. I'm approaching my 2 Year Anniversary working for Strava. My favorite sport is Basketball but I use Running on Strava to track my conditioning and stay in shape. My goal for this month is to run a total of 60 miles. At 2 miles per day, I believe this is very possible and would be a huge accomplishment! It would be great to get to know you! HOT or COLD?

Do you prefer exercising in the heat or cold? I'd pick the heat any day. I'm simply not a fan of freezing my fingers, toes, nose and eyeballs off. How about you? Comment below if you prefer being 🌞 = hot or ❄️ = cold.

How do you beat the heat?

So, my wife and I like to get out and run, but with the summer sun and humidity, it can be hard to get outside and not just feel like we are melting.  We try to run first thing in the am (before it gets too hot), but that is when the humidity here is the highest... later in the day, we have lower humidity, but a scorching hot sun.What do you do to 'beat the heat'?  Has anybody tried those "Arctic Cool" shirts?  Run at night?  Run indoors on a treadmill? (I don't like to do this, since we spend so much time indoors in the winter).  Cycling isn't as bad, since you at least generate more wind with the movement - any other activities you migrate to when it is hot outside?Who actually likes running in the heat (and why)?  We see a lot of people out in the peak heat of day - wondering how??
