Strava Features Chat

I achieved a gran fondo cycling on https://www.strava.com/activities/7628874558 but I do not appear to be recognised for it as completed this month with the GF badge..Is it because of privacy restrictions? Or? I can understand partner challenges not working for privacy restrictions, but for standard strava ones seems odd... 

I would like to see the features of the heatmap get linked to activities so I can see when I rode specific roads (re: all the rides where I was on that particular road).  It would give me a different way to review the segments on particular roads.  In addition, just like you can see google street view images over time (you can select which date of a street view image you want to see), I would like to see Strava add a play button that would show you the growth of your heatmap over time.

Would be nice to see activities for each shoe item in My gears, my shoes

I would be very nice to have the ability to let Strava make a route from A to B instead of a round up route with start and finish as the same point... Sometimes I want a route from where I am in the field or road to a specific place.

There is bike rider who posts on my segments as 75+ ages. In fact he is under 19 and might be under 16 years. I asked him to correct his age but he replied that it messes up his heart rate info. Can i have him flagged or somehow get him into the right age group and heart rate?

For a few months I was running a friendly cooperative group challenge with colleagues. I set up a club for my workplace and invited people that wanted to join. The group challenges were a great way to get people involved, people were keen to know just how far as a team we could go in any given month. It was a great motivator for people to be healthyUnfortunately, I had to stop a few months later, as non-premium members only get to join 3 group challenges, you have to be a premium member to join more. This is the most artificial barrier I have witness in freemium apps. Maybe I'm missing something but its not like cash prizes can be won in group challenges, its just a virtual leaderboard that can be aggregated in different ways. Its really disappointing, and I would like to see better support for creating Stava groups for workplaces. 

When trying to modify a route (enlarge it, drag the route to a larger or smaller area,..), the route also changes at points where I did not apply a modification. Are you able to 'freeze' a certain part of a route and only change where you want to change? Thx, Bruno

There's a limit to the number of new segments I can create in any 24-hour period.  I know this because I like to create identical segments from routes when I'm out on my e-bike to compare how I did against my road bike over the same segment. If a route has a lot of segments I have to create the new e-bike ones over several days (which is fine). I usually get a message that says something like "You've created too many segments. Try again in xx hours".  The time varies. Sometimes it less than 24 hours. Sometimes it's more. I've never figured out why.However, today when I went to create some segments the message I got was "You have created too many segments - try again later".I haven't created any in a good few weeks.  I've tried several times through today and I get the same message. Why am I getting this message now and what's behind this restriction anyway?Malcolm

I am under impression that upon upload from external devices Strava discards any speed data and then rebuilds from distance distance changes over time. As a result the running pace graph looks much more noisy and spiky than pace graph for the same activity in e.g. Garmin Connect. I'd say that in general it is very hard to use Strava pace graph for any kind of analysis - it is just too noisy to see any trends. Perhaps Strava should either be applying some smoothing or, when available, just use the original speed/pace data from the device. Many modern devices fuse the running pace data from both GPS and accelerometer which makes it way more stable than GPS based pace alone, and Strava should try to preserve that.  

I hiked around a lake, and had a swim in the middle. I recorded it as one activity. Once uploaded, I wanted to edit it to save as two activities - one complete Hike, and one Swim. In order to do this Iused the activity split tool (into 3)download GPX for activities 1 & 3did some GPX file manipulation to get a combined Hike GPX file (using original activities 1 & 3)deleted the 2 original Hike pieces (i.e. original activities 1 & 3)cropped the original Swim piece (i.e. original activity 2)attempted to upload the new Hike (i.e. merged original activities 1 & 3)However, it wasn't allowed. Your checking of the GPX file I was uploading said it was identical to the original Swim activity that had been uploaded. This is despite the fact that due to cropping, there was no overlap between the 2 files. This suggests that despite the splitting and the cropping, the "identical check" uses pre-split and/or pre-c

Custom heart rate zones are a subscriber benefit but it seems like they muck with relative effort calculations. They end up super wonky compared to default scores. Have you had any experience with this? Could you test it and get back to me?

Hi all,I'm new here, and as a Subscrition holder I get great additional features and choices to use.  As an older cyclist and one who has been riding for decades, Strava has been very helpful in keeping me motivated, and also helped me become a better rider.  I hope it's helping you too.  I have regular discussions with friends about features like KOMs and Local Legends.  We share opinions about these two features (among others) and I hope that here, I can solicit more thoughts and ideas from you, and even someone from Strava monitoring these posts.1) Do you feel there is merit to LL, and if so how?  Does it allow more people to feel included and rewarded by a wreath?  Or can it be just a matter of riding more in your neighborhood?2) This may be a bit controversial, but with KOM/QOM we all know it's origin is King of the Mountain.  Originally awarded on climbs ranking from 4,3,2,1, and HC.  Yet so many KOMs are for tiny fl

I want to use Strava for rides (mtn/gravel) that maintain fitness and pace. The app mostly promotes improving route/segment time. I want to stay motivated and achieve appropriate goals. I just don't want those goals to be focused on improvements in speed. Trying to go faster seems to invite injury plus at my age (mid-50s), I don't give a pop about winning.I'd appreciate thoughts on how to set goals or establish training plans that focus on hitting "average" pace/time not KOM/QOM/PR. Also, I ride the same routes on mtn and gravel bike. I'd like to distinguish average pace/time on each bike because the gravel bike is quicker.

Strava maps and routes are great and help we in planning my rides, runs and hikes.Great also that there are now more categories (i.e. Ride, Run, Walk, Trail Run, Gravel Ride, Mountain Bike)2 features are missing for me to manage My Routes:1. A capability to change the category from one to another - Sometimes one recorded the route under the wrong category. Now with the new categories, I would like to recategorize My Routes accordingly.2. Please allow sorting and searching within My Routes, so that it becomes easier to find the required route among the many others.If there are any workarounds at the moment, would appreciate guidance. Otherwise, hope above could be added to the already great functionality of Strava   

This feature was working fine for years, but after I retired a few shoes and now have only a single default pair my mileage isn't getting added to them. I've tried resetting stats but it doesn't work. Is there anything else I can try?

How would one go about changing the club leaderboard stats view. By default, in the app, it shows all athletes and time.I would like for it to show distance on the leaderboard, and "total club distance" on the main club page instead.

India has new regulations towards credit card information storage and processing. Strava payments are not compatible with those regulations and my renewals are being declined. Is there an update to the payments feature that is going to fix this?

The ability to extract part of an activity, rather than a full split, would be useful. My use case is I hiked around a lake, and had a swim half way through. I wanted to save the entire Hike as one activity, with the Swim as another. This is currently achievable, but it's long - split the activity, crop the middle activity, download all 3 files, use a text editor to piece gpx files 1 & 3 together, delete all 3 activities, upload the 2 new gpx files.This could be made much easier by enhancing your current Activity Split tool.

For a long time it has felt that KOM's are past their sell by date, particularly when group rides and pro riders are all taken as equal. The segment legends  helped show another way but it feels more can be done. As an educator i'm always interested in rewarding improvement rather than clumsy top marks. Strava should trial other  grading criteria related to improvement - e.g best percentage improvement this month on a segment, consistency ratings/ improvements, increase in weekly distance, improvement in longest ride etc. So not absolute numbers but rather % improvement. The data exists, so use it more inclusively. 

Can't edit/move a waypoint on Strava desktop.OK, I'm trying to move a waypoint to a different road. Well, not a waypoint per se, it's just a route, there are no waypoints at this point. If i click and drag on the route, it updates to the new route -  but then as soon as I release, it jumps back to what it was ... though now with a new waypoint where I grabbed it.Not the only one reporting this. (On a Macbook Pro, regardless of the browser.)

Under segments compare there's the choice to see times and ranks against a filter of age, followers and the like and there's a today filter which is really useful for seeing how you and your buddies did on a section, however, it would be HUGELY useful if there was a filter by date option even if you could select a specific date going only back a few days. Ideally we could be able to select an unlimited date range for eg. The weekend of *>*The other thing I'd like to have is a 'time of day started' from a given point or segment start. Limited use cases I grant you but it can come in handy to determine how far you were behind a group and how much time you gained or lost by the end by looking at a segment at, or near the start and end of the group ride whilst ignoring an individual's ride to start and ride home. This is mainly for hare/hound kind of rides which are becoming increasingly popular here.

Hi,It'd be great if the route builder could show average percent grade for the current route.I can mainly see this being used for seeing the grades of hills when looking for areas to run hills on and trying to find a certain grade of hill i.e. 3%, 4%, 5% etc. 

When you view your lap times, it would be nice to have a column with the cumulative time of that split and perhaps some other stats would be good (eg cadence or avg HR for that split)
