This was suggested in August of last year, but I haven't seen any further discussion or movement.  Currently, the only way to show elapsed time on something like a run, is to mark it as a "race".  The timing data is already there in the analysis portion of the activity, so it's just a matter of giving the user the option to use that vice "moving time".

Has this moved any further forward? The time moving is completely broken

Stravas entire recording of personal bests Is destroyed by this. Please fix it

On longer (ultra-distance) runs moving time makes zero sense as occasional rest breaks might be part of the activity and reducing those (and elapsed time) part of training. "Moving time" is completely useless data in this circumstance. And the workaround of tagging it as a "race" is just as misleading as the incorrect time.

A toggle between options is a simple but important change to turn junk data into useful training data, and avoid misleading the athlete and other observers who may be following their feed.

I mean, isn’t using “moving time” making the world a worse place?  It is validating fake running information and the only reason I can think of Strava having this is to make people feel good about themselves, vs giving accurate information?  This is a big annoyance for mountain running and mountain biking in particular as our steep uphill climbs are often loaded with “not moving” via Strava.  Love Strava, but this is such a stupid policy, and I want to tag only actual races as races so I can easily find them on my training log.

And for something marked as a "Workout" you would assume Strava would use the elapsed time by default, but if it has a GPS track it insists on using moving time which is not very meaningful for a workout.

I see this when importing triathlon transitions as workouts from my Garmin watch.  We don't even have a "race" feature on a workout.

If I wanted to only see the times when I'm moving during an activity I would pause strava whenever I stopped. It's hard to believe this is the default.

I'd didn't notice till today that Strava have removed the "race" option so total time is shown. Hiked 4.5 hours today, with a few breaks, but Strava thinks I only did less than 2.5, FO. This app really is going downhill.

It will be great to have an option on the same menu where you hide your stats (HR , cadence etc ) to add a toggle to switch between Elapsed / Moving time

i would prefer elapsed as the default option for all runs

thanks

I am also looking for elapsed pace instead of moving time. An option to toggle that would be great. Thanks

Yes please use an option to toggle to switch between Moving time and Elapsed time. Many athletes are asking for it and, depending of the type of activities, moving time might be better (running race for instance) and elapsed time also (for trail runs).

@Marioton @sebdd - This option is already available for running: select race from run type and it uses elapsed time not moving time. However it's not available for other activities, such as workout. It can be useful to retain GPS track of activities such as workout, but the total time is the important one, not the moving time. Ideally the option should be available for every activity.

@andyhenson the point of this is to have elapsed time available for all activities, not mark them as races.

I wonder if there is a hidden reason why Strava hasn't implemented this incredibly simple option. To force an elapsed time designation for a long training run I need to mark it as a Race, which is a lie. If I DON'T mark it as a race, my public-facing ultra-distance run results is also a lie (ultra running includes breaks). There are also runners who prioritize "Time on Feet" training, which relies on Elapsed Time, not Moving Time. One of the Strava developers could make this change in less than a day.

Why is it difficult to have the option to show elapsed time? Can we user help with suggestion and a solution?

I'm having the same issue. The moving time vs the elapsed time on my runs are waaay off. It basically makes tracking the activities pointless as the data can't be trusted. I initially thought it was just a glitch due to the el cheapo watch I'm using, but seeing this I realize it's not just me. Even pulling the gpx data into a basic gpx viewer shows the data is just fine.

It also seems like this has been an issue for quite some time. This is a reddit thread I found from like 7 years ago, https://www.reddit.com/r/running/comments/5rxk0a/psa_this_is_how_you_make_strava_show_elapsed_time/
I'm guessing they know about it, but they just don't care 😕
