There is a beautiful lake in my area that is popular for training. Many swimmers start at the same point, swim across to the other side where there is a clear endpoint, and then swim back to the starting point. The lake is shaped in such a way that there is essentially only one path to follow for this route.
While there are a couple of segments in the lake, I have created one myself, and currently, I am the only swimmer listed for it.
My suggestions for improvements are as follows:
Since GPS and water don't mix very well, make segments in open water swims much more flexible in tracking.
Make the start point and end point (turnaround point) clearly identify which segment you are on.
The parts in between should be allowed to vary from the segment much more.
