Proposing a method to flag questionable results, allowing the record holder to correct, retract, or acknowledge the ranking based on honor system.

Would need a button or menu item on leaderboard rankings to say “this looks questionable”

Show a “?” badge next to the ranking if the athlete doesn’t respond. Maybe only if it’s questioned by more than one other person to prevent spamming, or possibly consider removal of the record beyond a given number of questions without a response.

Notify the record holder that there is a question, and allow them to correct or confirm it. Usually it’s a case of changing the wrong activity type.

Should that be additional or instead of the current flagging system?

@avit - There is already a way to "flag" activities, although it is only available on the web browser version of Strava and not on the mobile ap.

I haven't used "flag" since it looked like content moderation. Maybe that is part of the same functionality I'm thinking of, and it's just not clear how the flag is processed. Does that go to Strava for moderation, or does the athlete just get notified? Does the flag show up somewhere or affect leaderboards?

Those are the parts I'm thinking of, maybe the existing flagging functionality can support that or be more visible. Something like "hide flagged records from leaderboard" as an option, perhaps.

@avit - when you flag an activity, you have to give a reason for the flag.  It is not moderated the first time around though.  It will immediately remove the activity from the leaderboards for any segments covered by the activity (you are flagging the entire activity, not a specific part of it).  The user will be notified that their activity was flagged, but will not be given any details about who flagged it.  They will then have the opportunity to correct the activity (change activity type, delete, etc...).  They can also select that it is fine as-is (say in the case someone flags an activity incorrectly).  Once they have addressed it, it will be re-posted.  If the new activity is still bad for whatever reason and is flagged a second time, it will require the user to justify their "fix" to Strava support before it can be re-posted.

Essentially, most issues are simple mistakes by the users (wrong activity type, left recording when driving, etc...), and a single flag will resolve the issue and can be handled automatically.  If it is more complex, there is a process for moderation to address it.  I use flagging all the time to clear up leaderboards from recordings in vehicles or incorrect activity types (runs recorded as rides or things like that).

That's perfect, then. I guess I just never saw it since I most often use the mobile app only.

Hi there, thanks for submitting this suggestion. As discussed in the comments, this functionality already exists within Strava. To read more about our flagging process, see here. Thank you for your contribution and willingness to keep Strava fun and fair!
