Hello, I've been an avid Strava user for years and have greatly benefited from its features and the incredible community it fosters. However, I recently encountered a challenge that has inspired an idea I believe could significantly enhance the Strava experience for many users, especially those like me who have transitioned from bustling cycling scenes to quieter areas. **The Idea: Real-World Group Ride Discovery** In a nutshell, I envision a new feature in Strava that empowers users to easily discover and connect with nearby riders for real-world group rides. Here's how it would work: 1. **Map View Button:** Add a button at the bottom of the Strava app's main screen, granting users quick access to a dedicated map view. 2. **Local GPS Map:** When this button is pressed, users would be directed to a screen displaying a GPS map of their local area. 3. **Public View Rider Icons:** On this map, icons resembling profile pictures (similar to Waze and Snapchat) would represent nearby riders who have their privacy settings set to "public view." 4. **Interactive Icons:** Enable users to hover over or click on these rider icons to access more information. 5. **Profile Information:** When clicking on a rider icon, a pop-up would reveal key details about the rider, including their average speed, FTP (Functional Threshold Power) score, and additional relevant information. 6. **Ride Request:** Implement a feature that allows users to send ride request messages directly to these nearby riders, expressing their interest in joining their ride. 7. **Ride Details:** Include quick info about the rider's current ride, such as its duration or destination if available. **Why This Feature Matters:** For users like me who have moved from active cycling scenes, this feature would be a game-changer. It would bridge the gap and offer an experience similar to online platforms like Zwift by providing instant access to social group rides and challenging training opportunities. As a bike commuter, I am grateful that Strava has designed more features for bike commuters. I was recently noticing that there are POIs on the map labeled (P) and I thought to myself how wonderful it is to have bike racks listed as a POI! Unfortunately, I was very mistaken by this and after a quick look on street view on Google maps, I noticed that there isn't actually a bike rack at that location. This said, after I realized that, I thought I would submit an Idea/feature request for adding bike racks as POIs. This is a novel dataset as far as I can tell, and to collect this information, I suggest allowing community members to mark locations where there are bike racks available, allowing for them to add the following: Description: a description of the bike rack (color/general location notes) Number: the total number of bike racks at the location. Notes: optional field, could allow for other user input This would be such an amazing feature and would allow bicycle commuters to have access to a constantly growing dataset of known bike rack locations, saving time/headache/heartache for anyone traveling by bike. Whether for a quick cafe stop on their road bike, grabbing a drink with friends at a bar after shredding up a few flow trails and jump lines on their mountain bike, or anyone touring/commuting by bicycle and intending to grab some lunch or stop at a neat little shop they found along the way, this feature would benefit all of the community. ... It would be great to have a general map view. Similar to the Route Creator, but without needing to enter anything. Options to overlay my heatmap, global heatmap, and segments. Underlay can be standard, imagery, or even trails overlaid.  I use strava often in new cities to find places to ride but it's actually not intuitive to access this information at all, and the underlying heatmaps are very useful to have a look at.  ... huge fan of the saved routes / segment. However the other day I was riding at night in my bike group (with Strava running)and followed our group leader..... however, I got left behind and was lost..... During my straca activity I tried to switch to navigate me to my saved segments / routes but was unable to do so.... I had to stop my Strava ride activity and start another one to begin navigating to the route of the saved segment... I am inquiring if there's a way to navigate to the saved routes /segment mid ride or would highly recommend doing this. Of course it might be difficult showing the route you've already been in the current activity+ the route of the saved segments. For cycling there should be an option to select a new map type - cadence. Currently couple of types are supported like speed, HR etc. ... View more

On the strava website, when selecting an activity, you get the activity map and beyond the statistics (speed, hart rate,...). When selecting a point in the Stats, a marker on the map shows where you where at that point in time. F.i. a hartrate peak, or a speed drop. Suggestion: offer filtering of what historic route types and speed is used to inform "popular" - allowing users to select "popular with cycling" or "popular with running" only, and ideally "minimum / maximum speed of XX kmph for the path" This would reduce many issues with suggested routes directing users down roads that are actually inappropriate, and where known / statistically identifiable journey types have significantly different routing requirements (e.g. cycling rides will typically be longer, higher average speeds etc.)  Problem: Within Build a Route - the "follow most popular" pathing does not have different data for Running / Walking vs Cycling. Most Popular is often not the most appropriate route.  Plotting a Road Cycling route will direct a cyclist down a very popular path, popular because it is used by runners/walkers - i.e. inappropriate for cycling, creating unreliable route suggestions at best, or routes with more cycling/pedestrian conflicts, or illegal (pedestrian only) or even dangerous route suggestions (high-speed road).  Popular but with much slower average user speeds might also not meet the road-cyclist's aims vs a nearby alternative - where better fine-grain suggestions would help immensely with routing.    ... Hi Strava Support, I'm writing because as a graphic designer I approach everything visually! I have a big problem that when I want to browse my own or even someone else's saved routes, I get an amazingly long list of text with dates and saved addresses... There's not even a little map preview. But I can't do anything with that! I can't remember the names, the dates, I only know approximately where and what route I took. It would be really cool if there was a feature that could search the map for the following: 1 - select roughly the area on the map where I or another user has been before 2 - a timeline would be displayed next to the interface, where you could either specify a fixed date or an interval 3 - or a date history where I can move the date on a timeline on a scale and the paths will appear (similar to OSX Time Machine) With a visual search like this, it would take moments to find an older trip, either my own or recorded by someone else, which could then be saved and re-scrolled. I think it would be great if Strava adds the Virtual World Tour on Strava. What is it? The Virtual World Tour basically allows an athlete that is running on a treadmill or cycling on their stationary bike to run or cycle around the world by connecting to Google Street View or MapBox Street View.  Why is it important? I want to be able to run in a city even if I am not able to travel to that city.  I can run this street virtually if I am running on a treadmill by controlling my avatar on a virtual map like Google Street view. The benefit of having this is that it allows people to explore the real world without paying for transportation to that city. It's not the same as traveling in the real world, but it still allows people to discover new cities that have been recorded by Google Street View.  How does it work? Basically, I can teleport to a street view location and start my run. Then I can control the map and make turns on streets from my phone or connected TV. The map automatically keeps moving forward as I continue running on the treadmill by staying connected the app.  If I want to teleport to a new location in the world, then I need to end my activity and start a new one. The real world segments that exist can also turn into virtual segments for athletes that are traveling those streets virtually.  Thank you!   ... View more

Enhancement Request: The ability to "insert waypoint" into existing routes in edit mode Building routes in Strava works very well.  Even better, I follow athletes in my area for new ideas, and click "Save Route" from their activities. Another great Strava community feature. However, when we go to edit that saved route, we are limited to: only moving the exiting waypoints (including the start) add-on from the end of the route delete waypoints This makes it very difficult to change the route in the middle.  Use cases include: Adding-on your own favorite section in the middle of an existing route More control re-directing to a preferred route path (if not sufficient existing waypoints) Changing the start to a new part of town without the route builder automatically finding the shortest path to the #2 waypoint This feature helps increase the value of following other athletes and saving routes.  It makes this social aspect of the community much more useful. I think it will be cool if Strava adds a new Golden Map type. What is it? Golden Map Types are golden paths animated in the direction that the athlete traveled on the map so that it shows the way the run started and ended.  How does it work? This map type is only available when an athlete sets a new PR or is the local legend of a segment in the route. I think it will be cool if the path is also animated so that it shows a medal, laurel wreath, crown or stars traveling in the direction that the athlete ran on the map.  The map is not always available.  Why is it important? Golden Map Types are limited and based on setting a new PR or LL, so they will be higher in demand.
