Strava Features Chat

This is a privacy concern (hence Apple prompts to allow / disallow access). But why is Strava trying to access my local network at all? There's no reason for it to be rooting around my WiFi.  Have Strava maybe accidentally used third party code which is maybe a bit malicious? 

If I want to record an cycling activity on my iPhone I tap on the 'record' symbol. Since the last update the default activity is set to 'running'. Then I have to manually change it to 'cycling'. This is irritating me and I wonder if there is a setting where I can change the default to 'cycling'?Thanks!

On my Garmin Forerunner 255 I have renamed my HIIT activities as CrossFit but when automatically imported into Strava they are listed incorrectly as a Workout rather than CrossFit.  I would like a feature to be able to say I wish these imported correctly to Strava as type CrossFit rather than workout.

I am wondering if KOM segments are or can be part of the bulk export? I recently did a bulk export and I see a CSV file called "local_legend_segments.csv", but no KOM equivalent. Perhaps I am missing it. Thank you for any insight. 

Hello,I wanted to ask about your experience with the heart rate zone settings. I have a Strava Relative Effort data field uploaded to my Garmin watch so I know the running value as I run. In my watch, I have the zone set in the strava data field, just like in garmin. Directly in Strava, if I leave the zones Based on max heart, the values after the activity plus minus match. If I set Custom herat rate zones in Strava, the values are almost half as low after the activity (in my watch, the relative effort shows, for example, 79, and after uploading the activity to the diet, I have a relative effort of only 45, for example).Thank you

In Strava terms, what constitutes a "Workout?" This is listed as one of the acceptable activity types for this month's "Indoor Workout Challenge," and just wondering what counts. Evidently an indoor ride does not 😕😕

Like for instance, if I want to know how many Ks i hiked in 2017? Or how many hours I ran in july 2018?

I just switched from Suunto, and I miss the function that you can see everyones heatmaps. Meaning that you can always discover popular routes in an area. It would also be nice if you can click on the individual track of your personal heatmap to see that specific activity.

What exactly is Strava's 'Training Impulse'? It is  ONLY shown when you hover over a particular ride in the 'Fitness and Freshness' curve, but the term is not defined in the Strava glossary (as far as I can find) and -of course- its not  'Training Load ' (known as TSS everywhere else)) or 'Intensity' (= IF) or 'Relative Effort' (TRIMP). Can't find anything on these boards or via Gogle.Anyone?Thx.

Wanted to see if I get help with an activity title issue.I'm trying to see if it's possible to not have my ride location automatically show up in the title of my ride. I will get something like "San Antonio, Texas morning ride", when all I used to get was just "morning ride." (I know this is something Strava implemented a while back and it drives me crazy.) I can completely replace the activity title, removing the location data, and it add it back in later on. Is there a way to turn this feature off? I have friends who never get the ride location in the their auto titles. I've looked at the preferences and haven't found a way so far.Thanks for any help.

I bike a specific route a lot. I encounter a stop light twice.I am not sure pausing is working right. Whether I am stopped at the light has an outsized effect on my ride time.I am tracking using a Fitbit Charge 5, and it syncs to Strava.Does Strava detect pauses in the synced Fitbit data? If so, how can I see where it is seeing pauses? I would like to validate my theory.If this is primarily a Fitbit deal, I can check there. I am not clear which part bears responsibility for this. It seems that the data available to Stava is sufficient for it to eliminate pauses, but not sure that it does.

I've just started trying out Strava on my galaxy watch 5 pro, and this seems like such a no-brainer but I can't find it anywhere. How do I see my distance on the app while I'm running? On my watch I can see Heart Rate, Time, and Pace/Mile, but that's it? I want to look at my watch while running and see how far I've gone, without having to wait until I've finished the run and it's synced to my phone. All of the distance info is there on my phone post-run, but how do I see it during the run?In the Samsung Health watch app it's so simple: I see Duration, Distance, Pace and Heart Rate. I can even get an audio or vibration cue at each mile. Why would anyone use Strava for running if you can't see the distance while running? Thanks in advance - hopefully I'm missing a simple setting. 

My latest 36.4 mile ride will not sync to my phone and computer. I have tried everything and nothing worked

Many times my photos location is way off from place it was taken. This is because the GPS location can be very inaccurate if I take a picture with my phone quickly after turning it on.It would be nice to be able to put photos on a map at a location based on when they were taken, this can be much more accurate than GPS data. I know that there are some users that use some scripts that takes GPX and photos and then updates geolocation meta data looking for the nearest point in GPX to time when photo was taken.Could Strava perhaps also allow this option when uploading media? Place photos on GPX "when" it was taken, ignoring location data.

Can we add segments for walking as well?

I’d like the opportunity to communicate privately and directly with fellow Strava athletes (gear and route questions, co-training opportunities, etc.; things that are too detailed for the comments section). I understand that creating, integrating, and “policing” an internal personal messaging system is daunting, but what about Strava allowing an email sharing “opt in”.Any athlete could allow conversation through their Strava verified sign-in email but it would be hidden behind a “contact this athlete” button on Strava. The receiving athlete would see the sending athlete’s email and they could choose to reply or not reply and continue the communication off the Strava website within their personal email (gmail, yahoo, etc).  The general Strava audience would not see any personal email, just the “contact this athlete” button—unless it is grayed out because the athlete chose to not partake in this form of direct communication.  What are your thoughts and ideas pl

 Hi,Completely new to Strava; I've planned a route, now would like to install waypoints at particular km intervals, lets say every 30km - the route is a few hundred kms.  How do I do this? I am hovering over the KM marker flags and trying to add a waypoint by clicking, but it is not letting me. Thanks for any help

In the Android app the Weekly Intensity does not show all my activities. For example this week the Activities this week under Weekly Intensity only shows activities from Monday through Thursday. Activities done on Friday through Sunday are not shown. Last week, my activity from Sunday is not shown. 

I just moved to a new city and decided to open up heatmaps to look for local routes. While I was under my own personal heatmap, I noticed something very strange... 2 activities were recorded in places I have NEVER been, one in Sanfran CA and the other in Seattle WA. They are not just straight lines indicating a GPS error either, and I live in MI anyway, closest I've been to either of those places is Utah and Nevada. When I zoom in on the activity, they are not just in random places either, they both appear to correlate directly over a building. What is going on here exactly? If they had been straight lines in completely random places I'd chalk it up to GPS errors, but Seattle and San Francisco? Two places a lot of scam calls and junk mail comes out of? 

Hi everyone,Not sure if this interests anyone, but as a cyclist and follower of pro cycling it's well accepted that big mountains are among the most revered challenges.  The origin of KOM was from TdF as one example - when the award was ONLY for summiting a mountain.  For me personally, I have a list of about 30-40 of the most iconic mountain climbs that I want to accomplish.  Many of them appear in the major stage races, and/or offer the most stunning scenery.  I've done about half so far.  Each of these is an amazing experience, and I plan a few every year.  Is anyone interested in this topic, and want to discuss and share our experiences, as well as possibly having Strava acknowledge in some way those of us that have done this?  I bet there are many, many among us who have climbed these mountains and experienced the satisfaction and exhilaration of summiting.  Not to mention the thrilling descents.Richa

 I like the concept of fitness as a ratio of effort/intensity vs rest over time. But the calculation needs to be updated, because as it stands, it gives me peaks of around 110, and lows of about 11 in the past two years. I know it's relative, and it's accurate that my intensity and frequency changes seasonally, but it's misleading in that it looks like I'm 10x more fit in the summer than in the winter. I'd like the range to be more indicative of performance potential. Ex: in the winter when my score is 11, i can probably still run a 5k, bike a century, etc (whatever baseline metric) about 70-80% as fast as my peak. So I'd expect the fitness scores to reflect that. If my peak is 110, my low should be 70 or so. Not 11...

My lap times seem to include time when I have my ride on "pause".  I do not think it should do this. Maybe this is an artifact of the way my Garmin works and not Strava calculations. I do not know.

I've recently had minor problems when I have cropped a bike ride (something I usually do to get ride of "noise" at the start and end of a ride) and I see a spurious duplicate of the ride before it was cropped.  I've done about 900 bike rides and never had the problem until about 2 weeks ago and it's happened again today - I crop the ride as normal and then I notice a copy of the pre-cropped ride in my feed but with the Activity set to "indoor cycling" and showing no Segments (the copy has the same start time as the cropped version and is slightly longer).  It's almost as though the cropping process somehow failed and didn't delete the original version.  Is it safe to delete the copy ? It's obviously related to the cropped version and I don't want to risk losing that (and the associated performances).
